More Men Get Plastic Surgery To Compete For Jobs
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Finding a job in this economy is extra tough. That's why more job-seekers are doing work on themselves. They're having surgery to keep up with the younger competition.
Graphic designer Bob Kiernan is looking for a job, and one has caught his eye.
"I'm being interviewed by people half my age," Kiernan says.
He's also facing younger and younger competition, and at 56-years-old, and unemployed for a year, Kiernan's decided to some work on himself. He had a cosmetic procedure called the "Y Lift", hoping to turn back the clock.
"I think it will help me get a job, because people will see the confidence and I won't look as tired," said Kiernan.
Plastic Surgeons say they're seeing a growing trend in this sluggish economy; more and more men are having minor nips and tucks to look more attractive to employers.
"Unemployed men that are coming in just to get a little bit of an edge, so they can look a little bit younger, a little more energetic," said Dr. Yan Trokel, a cosmetic surgeon.
The minimally invasive procedure Bob is having targets the under eyes, cheeks and jaw line.
"As we age, these are the areas that first start to go," said Dr. Trokel.
Forty-five minutes later, Kiernan can see the results. "Oh my god," he happily reacted.
But creating a new and improved self will cost you. The price tag is around $8,400. Still Bob Kiernan says if it helps him get a new job, it's a good investment.
