Airlines Increasing Rates Ahead Of Holidays
DALLAS (CBS4) ―
With the holiday travel season just around the corner and profits down, it's no surprise to airline travelers that airlines are increasing the costs for tickets. American Airlines matched a recent fare hike by Delta Airlines, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald.
American increased round-trip flights by $10 and $5 on one-way trips. The price hike is the fifth this year and the second in two weeks, according to Rick Seaney, CEO of farecompare.com. There were 15 price hikes in 2008.
American, Delta, United, and U.S. Airways have also matched the others price hikes. Discount airlines Southwest and AirTran have not indicated whether they will also raise their prices.
