Emmy-award winning journalist Ileana Varela has been with WFOR (formerly WCIX) since 1989. She began as a reporter, and in 1993, she was promoted to the position of News anchor for the noon broadcast. Currently, Ileana anchors WFOR's highly-rated weekend news.
Before joining CBS4, Ileana was a reporter at WPLG-TV in Miami and worked for television and radio stations in Tampa, Florida.
Ileana graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Florida.
Besides two Emmys, Ileana has been twice honored by The Society of Professional Journalists (Sigma Delta Chi) for excellence in journalism and by Women in Communications.
She was born in Havana, Cuba and was raised in St. Petersburg, Florida.
