Shark Spotted Just Yards Off Ft. Lauderdale Beach

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― Swimmers along a section of Fort Lauderdale beach were ordered to get out of the water Monday afternoon when a shark was spotted close to shore.

The shark, believed to be a Blacktip Reef Shark, was swimming in a southerly direction, just yards off South Beach Park, which is south of Las Olas.

As the shark continued to swim south, beach lifeguards would re-open the water to swimmers.

The shark was spotted by a lifeguard in one of the lifeguard towers.

Blacktip reef sharks are considered non-aggressive and are unlikely to attack humans without being provoked.
