South Beach is a world destination, but at places like the Sagamore Hotel they are promoting hometown flavor this summer with staycation packages. Sandi Plotnick and Josh Rose drove down from Weston to grab one of the deals. Plotnick told me, "We actually stayed two nights and got the third one for free. We were only going to stay two nights, so why not make it a long weekend."

The U.S. Congress voted to pass a gigantic financial bailout, which was immediately signed by President Bush. The bailout added a package of tax breaks, raised the FDIC insurance limit to $250,000, requires private health insurers make mental health and addiction treatments equal to traditional medical benefits, and other enticements.
The $700 billion price tag attached to the government bailout of Wall Street might be hard to fully grasp. The plan, called a "Hail Mary" by some, seeks to inject money into the market in hopes of avoiding a long-term economic slowdown, or possibly even a depression.
