Report: Federal Stimulus Creating Jobs In Florida
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ―
Based on a new report, the federal economic recovery program, or stimulus, has been a major success for the state of Florida. The Obama stimulus has saved or created nearly 30,000 jobs in the state of Florida, according to the federal report. But, according to Florida's stimulus adviser, the number of people the stimulus has employed is actually larger than federal estimates.
Florida's stimulus adviser, Don Winstead, said the state numbers are probably closer to 47,000. The number differs based on when workers began their stimulus-paid jobs. State economists say the new numbers may be even higher because the report only looks at jobs directly created or saved by the stimulus.
When the numbers were expanded to include jobs saved or created indirectly from the stimulus, the number swelled to 64,300, according to Winstead. Most of the jobs that have been created and saved have been in the state's public school system.
