Increased Voting Turnout For Broward
Polls Closed At 7 p.m.
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) ―
There was a sizable turnout for Broward County elections Tuesday, as voters came out to vote for their favorite presidential candidate, making the race for the next commander-in-chief that much tighter.
The Supervisor of Elections Office Brenda Snipes predicted that they would have a 42% turnout which is an increase from the usual 20% who vote in the primaries.
It was so busy in some areas that officials had to bring in extra polling equipment to two of the Century Village voting sites in order to deal with the high turnout.
Voters leaving the polls said the main issues affecting them were their pocketbooks and candidate's issues.
One voter chose Mitt Romney because of his family values, while another resident is looking towards Obama to make big changes for the country.
But money kept on being a high priority in the minds of many.
"I want to protect my home from the recession coming up down the road" one man told us after leaving the polls.
Hope for that change is sure to be on the minds of most voters, as we get closer and closer to poll results.
