Many have labeled the upcoming the 2008 election as one of the most important in history. Based upon the turnout for early voting, it seems the voters are taking that message to heart.
As of Monday morning, the Secretary of State's office said 1,016,275 Florida voters had cast ballots during the first week of early voting. This comes despite some record long wait times, as much as 4 hours, in some communities.
When voting began on Monday morning, the Miami-Dade elections department said 112,434 early voters have cast their ballots. Plus, another 92,104 absentee ballots have been mailed in. This past weekend alone, 31,243 voters took advantage of early voting and an additional 6,728 absentee ballots were returned.
For comparison sake, in the 2004 Presidential Election, 244,067 Miami-Dade voters took advantage of early voting and 98,466 voted via absentee ballot.
Early voting will continue through Sunday.
In Miami-Dade County, you can cast your ballot from 11am to 7 pm Monday through Friday, Saturday 9am 1pm, and Sunday 1pm 5pm.
In Broward County, polls will be open for early voting from 10am 6pm Monday through Friday, 10am 3pm on Saturday, and 1pm - 4pm on Sunday.
