Microsoft's Music Player Zune Launches
(AP)
Zune, the portable music player and digital music store that Microsoft hopes will compete with Apple's iPod player and iTunes music service, hits store shelves today.
The device will sell for just under $250 and lets people share songs, playlists or pictures over a wireless connection with nearby Zune users. The company says by paying record labels a portion of Zune player sales, it hopes to have more freedom to allow song-sharing or other promotions.
The music service will let people buy songs individually for about 99 cents, the same that Apple charges for songs from its popular iTunes Music Store. Microsoft also will offer a Zune Pass subscription service, which will let users listen to any of about two (m) million songs for 14 dollars, 99 cents a month.
