Drought Forcing Calif. Farmers To Abandon Crops

CBS News Interactive: Floods & Droughts

FRESNO (AP) ― Water rationing is forcing some San Joaquin Valley farmers to abandon crops and lay off workers.

One farmer is letting more than 700 acres of tomatoes he planted in the Firebaugh area die so he can keep more than 500 acres of almond trees alive.

Other growers who get their water from the Westlands Water District are facing similar decisions.
