Baby Carrier/Car Seats Can Be Dangerous To Infants

MIAMI (CBS4) ― CBS4 News is bringing a very important safety alert to parents.

Most parents have left their baby in a car seat for a long period of time. In fact, many double as carriers, making things as convenient as possible. But those could end up sending your child to the hospital.

According to a new study presented to the American Academy of Pediatrics found more than 8700 infants ended up in the emergency room because their car seat/carriers were used inappropriately outside the car.

Most of the injuries happened when the seats fell off tables, counters and other high surfaces. Other children were smothered when their seats toppled onto soft surfaces, such as beds.

Parents are encouraged to only use the seats on the floor, and avoid letting babies stay in them for a long period of time. That, the study found, can lead to weak muscles and flat heads in infants.
