911 Calls May Be Released In Miami Beach Shootings
MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) ―
Thursday, Miami Beach police expect to release 911 tapes from two fatal officer-involved shootings in June.
On June 14, an officer fatally shot 29-year-old Husien Shehada, a tourist from Virginia. Shehada's family says he was unarmed. Four days later, officers responding to a report of an armed carjacking of a taxi fatally shot Lawrence McCoy, also 29; police say McCoy shot at them.
Miami Beach police chief Carlos Noriega is scheduled to release the tapes and talk about the shootings at 2 p.m. The events are still under investigation.
Officer Adam Tavss was involved in both shootings. Before the June deaths, the last fatal officer-involved shooting on Miami Beach was in 2003. The man was armed with a knife.
