Police Seek Violent Road Rage Beater

NW MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) ― A Miami Gardens man remains comatose at Jackson Memorial Hospital after a road rage incident early Friday morning.

David West who is a deacon at the Greater Love Baptist Church in Miami Gardens, was severely beaten in the head.

According to his wife who was in the car with West, the couple was exiting I-95 in Miami Gardens when a driver pulled in front of them and stopped dead in the road around 3:00 a.m.

That driver got out of his car, a newer model blue Mustang, and began screaming racial slurs. The unnamed driver, who has a distinguishing birthmark on his face, struck 63-year-old West several times in the head before escaping in a blue, newer-model Ford Mustang with custom rims.

West was able to drive his car home but then collapsed and was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Doctors performed surgery to relieve swelling in his brain but West has not regained consciousness.

"Right now it's hard to live a day with his suffering," West's granddaughter tells CBS 4 News. "He is a man of prayer. We're prayer warriors and we're saying he's gonna get through this."

Dozens of congregants from West's Church have been visiting him daily. "We're just pleading with the community to bring justice to this situation. We're pleading with anyone who knows anything to come forward," Pastor Dwayne Richardson said.

Officers are searching for a man resembling the sketch on the side. If you have any information, or know somebody resembling the sketch, contact Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
