Cubans who live in Santa Cruz del Sur were being allowed to return Monday for the first time since hurricane Paloma hit.
What they will find is going to be difficult to process, as Paloma leveled parts of the town.
Thousands of Cuban families returned to their homes in disbelief. Their homes were demolished by Hurricane Paloma Saturday. The town of Santa Cruz del Sur took a direct hit from the category 4 storm--leaving behind nothing but shredded homes in its wake.
An unidentified woman said, "It's devastating, but the good thing is that we're alive, and this revolution gives to everyone and doesn't leave anyone homeless," as she referred to Cuba's government.
A nearby antenna tower was snapped in half, and so were power poles and lines. A child's bike was just thrown on the street and roofs were completely flattened.
Many across the area have to work to clean up the mess left behind by the third hurricane to hit this year.
And as residents hear from Cuban Government officials on help, you can see the heartache from Paloma in their faces. This storm did more than destroy their homes; it destroyed their livelihood.
