The Cubans Arrived At "Isla Cisne" (Swan Island)

There Were 10 Men, 2 Women, 1 Girl
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (CBS4) ― A group of 13 undocumented Cubans arrived at a Honduran island in the Caribbean with the intention of getting to Miami to seek refuge.

Monday, the 10 men, two women, and one girl arrived at the island about 496 miles north of Honduras. The Associated Press reported that the group left Manzanillo on the boat "La Poderosa" on the 6th of April.

"They traveled 11 days in the sea on this small watercraft and arrived on the 14th of April in Honduras," said Captain Jose Saul Reyes of the Honduran Navy.

Reyes also said the group left Cuba along with 12 other Cubans who arrived in La Ceiba.

At least 95 Cubans have arrived in Honduras under similar circumstances this year so far.

According Director of Immigration German Espinal, the illegal exit of Cubans from his country has become a huge business for international human smugglers who then take them to Miami. Some charge up to $25,000 per person for the job.

The men who arrived Monday are identified as: Orlando Guerra, 45; Rafael Comas, 43; Jorge Romero, 39; Manuel Sicinero y Alexander Cabrera, both 38; Luis Torres, 37; José Montero, 26; Víctor Fernández, 25; Misael Núñez, 22; and Leandro Pantoja, 20. The women are: María Chávez, 48; her daughter Camila, 15; and Yanilca Chávez, 29.
