Cubans Ashore On Elliott Key

BISCAYNE NATIONAL PARK (CBS4) ― A group of refugees, believed to be Cuban, came ashore in South Florida Tuesday morning.

According to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald, there were 14 people who landed on the northern tip of Elliott Key and also on Sands Key in Biscayne National Park.

No other information has been released yet.

Cuban refugees are usually allowed to stay in the U.S. due to the 'wet foot-dry-foot policy' which states Cubans who reach U.S. soil are allowed to stay and seek American residency, while those intercepted at sea are generally sent home.
