MIAMI (CBS4) ― The Miami Dolphins remarkable turnaround from worst in the league to the AFC East championship had remarkable play from veterans and rookies alike. Now, the team is honoring a select few with the team's most valued honors. Quarterback Chad Pennington, linebacker Joey Porter, linebacker Akin Ayodele and running back Ronnie Brown all took home team awards for their play and service to the community in 2008.

Quarterback Chad Pennington and linebacker Joey Porter shared the Dan Marino Most Valuable Player Award for 2008. Pennington completed 321 of 476 passes for 3,653 yards, 19 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions. His completion percentage of 67.4 topped the fabled Dan Marino's 1984 record.

Linebacker Joey Porter was arguably the heart and soul of the Dolphins defense in 2008. Porter led the team with 17.5 sacks for a total of 96 yards lost. He tacked on four forced fumble as well. His 17.5 sacks were the most by a Dolphin linebacker in team history. Porter was also named to his fourth Pro Bowl during 2008 for his monstrous play.

Akin Ayodele, the Dolphins starting middle linebacker took home the Nat Moore Community Service Award. Aydoele launched Akin's PATH and works with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Miami. He is currently working on a campaign to fund summer camps for children in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. He also gives 20 tickets per games to kids in the program, and frequently spends Tuesdays speaking to kids at local schools and foster homes.

Running back Ronnie Brown put together a phenomenal system both playing as a running back and as quarterback in the "Wildcat" offensive package. Brown led the Dolphins in rushing, added 254 yards as a receiver, and threw a touchdown as a quarterback. Perhaps the most impressive feat was that Brown did this just a year removed from having his knee reconstructed. For his effort, he was award the Ed Block Courage award.
