Dolphins Lose To Bucs 17-6 In Preseason Action

Henne Impressive In Defeat

MIAMI GARDENS, FL (CBS4) ―

Chad Pennington watched from the sideline as his new teammates took the field against the Tampa Bay Bucs on Saturday night.  Pennington signed a multi-year contract with the Miami Dolphins as he most likely will be the team's starting quarterback to begin the season.

On the field the Bucs spoiled the preseason debut of new Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano with a 17-6 victory.

John Beck got the start at quarterback and completed 5-9 passes for 45 yards but couldn't get the offense in the end zone.  Rookie Chad Henne saw action in the second and third quarters and finished the game 5-10 for 67 yards and led the team to two scoring drives as Dan Carpenter converted on field goals of 41 and 49 yards.

Henne converted on passes of 14 and 20 yards to David Kircus that led to the game's first score.

Josh McCown, who might be the odd man out with the signing of Pennington, played in the fourth quarter and completed 5-8 passes for 35 yards.

Looking sharp in his five carries was running back Ricky Williams who showed explosiveness in a couple of his runs as he gained 31 yards on the night.  Ronnie Brown, who started at running back and is coming off a knee injury that ended his 2007 season, rushed the ball three times for four yards.

Bucs quarterback Brian Griese led a 19 play drive in the first half that ended with Griese's three yard touchdown pass to Brian Clark.  The other two Tampa Bay scores came in the second half on a Michael Bennett one yard touchdown run and a Matt Bryant 32 yard field goal.
