Dol-fans And Dollars: Gambling On A Dream

MIAMI (CBS4) ― These tight economic times aren't deterring diehard Dolphin Football fans. There was a near sellout crowd at Saturday night's pre-season opener.

The cost of a ticket at the gate runs anywhere from 41 to 115 dollars. And that doesn't include the price of parking or snacks.

"I think its' ridiculous to have those kind of prices for a 1 and 15 team," said Darryl Witherspoon as he shelled out money for a ticket. "But I gotta see what they got."

He and other fans are hoping they will get more for their money this season. With the change in management, players and coaches, many believe the team can return to their winning ways.

Last year the Dolphins had the worse season in their history. They only won a single game.

We asked longtime tailgaters why hope springs eternal.

"I've been coming here 12 years. Wait and see. Last year we had a bad season. This year we couldn't be any worse" said Doug Sparapni as he grilled up Brats and beer.

"The people are excited because we have no idea what the expectations are", remarked Mike Mansfield

But not everyone is cheering about the prices. Eddie Martinez and his group paid close to 300 for their tickets. "We're from Mexico. It's cheaper there. Our sport is soccer."
