Honor Roll Awaits Former "Killer Bs"

Betters, Baumhower Become 18th And 19th Members

DAVIE (CBS4) ―

The Dolphins Honor Roll will grow by two on December 14, 2008 when two members of the famous "Killer Bs" defense get inducted.  Former nose tackle Bob Baumhower and defensive end Doug Betters will become the 18th and 19th members of that club.

The two played together alongside from 1978-86 in helping the Dolphins capture five AFC East titles and a pair of Super Bowl appearances.

Baumhower was selected by the Dolphins in the second-round of the 1977 draft out of the University of Alabama.  He started 129 of the 130 regular season games and racked up 888 career tackles and 39.5 sacks.  His sack total ties him for seventh on the all-time team's sack list.

Betters was drafted in the sixth-round by the Dolphins in 1978 out of the University of Nevada.  He made the Pro Bowl and was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 1983 when he registered 16 sacks, a figure that tied for third that year.  The former dolphin played in 149 games with the team in his ten year career from 1978-1987 recording 65.5 sacks ranking him second on the team's all-time list.

Betters uses a wheelchair these days after suffering a spinal-cord injury in a skiing accident in Montana in 1998.

"I was very flattered and in disbelief, I didn't think I was worthy, but I'm very honored," said Betters.
