The Miami Dolphins run defense has held up fairly well in the first few weeks of the season. The linebacker combination of Joey Porter and Dolphins legend Jason Taylor has been up to par, both hitting the quarterback and stuffing the run. Now, reinforcements may be on the way.
2008 starting outside linebacker Matt Roth said he is finally healthy and ready to resume practice after the Dolphins next game. Roth has been on the reserve-non-football injury list for all of the regular season up to this point.
Roth, a former defensive end in a 4-3 defensive alignment, is a big bodied run-stuffing linebacker who will likely see action on first and second down before giving way to Taylor on third down, freeing up Taylor to be a pass rushing specialist. He hopes to be practicing after the Saints game on October 25.
For the Dolphins, the news means a team with an embarrassment of riches at the linebacker position just got another toy. Roth, Taylor, Porter, Akin Ayodele, Channing Crowder, and developing pass rushing beast Cameron Wake will all give Dolphins defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualone lots of ways of putting pressure on opposing team's offenses.
