Parcells Can Leave Dolphins After One Season
MIAMI (CBS4.com) ―
The Dolphins pulled off a miracle season, going from worst to first in the AFC East, and making it to the playoffs just one year removed from being the worst team in football. But, the architect behind the turnaround, Bill Parcells, has the ability to leave the team after one season if the Dolphins are sold.
The contractual clause says if Parcells leaves, he would still receive the remaining money on his four-year contract, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.
Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga, who hired Parcells, will complete the sale of the Dolphins to New York billionaire Stephen Ross shortly after the season ends. Parcells would then have 30 days to decide if he wants to stay or not. Both Huizenga and Ross have said they want Parcells to stay. Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano refused comment on any possible impact he might have on Parcells' decision.
If Parcells chose to move on, it would be his shortest stay with a team in recent memory. He left the Cowboys after coaching them four years, spent three with the Jets, and four with the Patriots. As of Monday afternoon, only one prominent general manager position was open, the Cleveland Browns.
