Parcells Opens Up About Dolphins Roster
An Exclusive Interview With Miami Dolphins' Bill Parcells
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
New Dolphins president Bill Parcells has already left his footprint on the Dolphins franchise without the first game having been played. He immediately brought in his own staff and began reshaping the worst team in the NFL in 2007. CBS4's Lesley Visser sat down with the Tuna, Parcells' nickname, and asked him about some of the issues around the team.
Parcells was upbeat about what he's seen from the running game during training camp. On Ricky Williams, "Well, you can only go on what you see and so far, what I've seen has been very, very good," Parcells said. When it came to William's backfield counterpart Ronnie Brown, "He's coming along pretty well in camp and I think as we go through the preseason, we'll have a better shot."
The question that seems to draw the most attention during any discussion about the Dolphins centers on the quarterback position. Parcells has an idea of who should be the quarterback, but didn't want to reveal that out of respect to head coach Tony Sparano.
"I think it's best left unsaid because it's very early in the competition and I haven't seen them in game conditions. So, I think I'd be a little presumptuous if I was talking about them."
When the topic of soon-to-be released Jets quarterback Chad Pennington, Parcells, who drafted Pennington to the Jets, was not tipping his hand on the issue.
"I never rule out anything, but what people have to realize about Miami is where in this world we are right now. We're trying to build this team preferably with young players that could maybe grow up together, and by the time we're finished, we hope we have a pretty good product and that the maturing didn't take that long," Parcells said.
The Tuna, who once famously said about picking his players, "if they want you to cook the dinner, they should at least let you shop for the groceries," hasn't lost that wit. When asked about Channing Crowder, one of the two more vocal linebackers on the team, Parcells quipped, "He could talk a cat off a fish truck."
CBS4 and CBS4.com will have more from the sit down with Bill Parcells in the coming weeks' as the 2008 season gets closer.
