In just a few months, South Florida will host its record tenth Super Bowl. But, according to a top football executive, it may be the last Super Bowl the city of Miami holds for a long time. According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, NFL senior vice-president Frank Supovitz said Land Shark Stadium lacks modern skyboxes, high-definition lighting, and other amenities that help bring a Super Bowl to a city.
Supovitz went on to point out that without a retractable roof stadium, the city has problems. "I'm not going to have anyone rained on in North Texas. They're not going to get rained on in Indianapolis," Supovitz said.
The remarks come just four months after the city of Miami was rebuffed in an attempt to land the 2013 Super Bowl. The city lost to New Orleans, despite a $200 million renovation in the last few years to 22-year-old Land Shark Stadium.
Compounding problems is that there is only one more BCS championship game committed to the area. Atlanta, which hosts the Chick-Fil-A Bowl and the SEC Championship game, and Dallas are both reportedly interested in hosting a BCS game.
Super Bowl XLIV is set for February 7th and can be seen exclusively on CBS4. The Pro Bowl will be held at Land Shark Stadium on January 31.
