A-Rod's Other Half Chats Up Charity Fundraiser
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (CBS4) ―
All-star Alex Rodriguez is on top of the world. After signing a reported 275 million dollar contract with the Yankees, the future hall-of-famer is now expecting his second child and heading the A-Rod Family Foundation with wife Cynthia. She sat down with CBS4'S Lisa Petrillo to discuss the foundation and their Thursday night fundraising event.
"The A-Rod Family Foundation is a charity Alex and I founded to serve distressed and neglected children," she said. "As a result you end up aiding the entire family."
The Rodriguez family splits their time between New York and Miami, but as a Gulliver graduate, Cynthia will always call Miami home.
"Miami was where I was born and raised and Alex was raised in Miami. Our family is here so that's important to us, especially with children now to give us structure. So we will always come back down for Winter- buy New York is our home for 8 months a year," she said.
And being the wife of the highest paid baseball player isn't always a grand slam.
When I asked her if it was tough being in the spotlight all the time she said, "I think it poses challenges, but I think it forces you to reevaluate your value system. What matters and what's most important. At the end of the day he's just Natasha's dad and he's my husband. He's a family man."
For Cynthia, events like tonight's fundraiser which helps children in need, is what being in the limelight is all about.
"I feel very privileged to be in this position, to help so many people and that's what my goal is. I've been lucky enough to help people that need it. That's what's most important," she said.
The event kicks off at the Chic Parisian in Coral Gables at 7 p.m. followed by Friday and Saturday all day. Ten percent of the sales of the evening gowns going down the runway will go towards the A-Rod family foundation.
