Cedella Marley Booker, 81, the mother of late reggae musician Bob Marley, has passed away at her South Florida home on Tuesday.
CBS4.COM spoke to Booker's daughter-in-law, Shireen, who said her mother-in-law died of natural causes. She was surrounded by loved ones inside her home. She was said to be 'happy'.
She was affectionately known as "Mother Booker".
Her nephew Jimmy Malcolm told CBS4 Shomari Stone the family is in mourning.
"I'm just getting used to not seeing her every day. I am coping with it, one day at a time, were coping with it," he said.
"Mother Booker" was also a good friend to the South Florida community. A recent videotape showed her smiling at a festival in honor of her late son. Some of the proceeds benefited charitable organizations like Camillus House. Sam Gil is the vice president of the homeless shelter.
"Besides being a wonderful person, she gave generously to this community. Among the many organizations that she contributed to through the Bob Marley festival was the Camillus House, and that went to feed thousands, who otherwise went hungry without her support," added Gil.
Booker wrote two books about her son and released two albums "Awake Zion" and "Smilin' Island of Song."
Relatives will miss her warm smile, her good spirit and generosity. She even has her own
MySpace page.
Family members are currently making arrangements for a memorial in her honor.
