Antonio Mora To Join CBS4 News
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Antonio Mora, a former Miami news anchor who found success with ABC News, including a role as a substitute host for Good Morning America, is returning to South Florida to join the CBS4/My33 news team as co anchor of the 5, 6, and 11 pm weekday news broadcasts with Shannon Hori. Mora will join CBS4 January 28th.
Mora comes to CBS4 from WBBM, the CBS station in Chicago, where he has been anchoring the 6 PM Newscast. He was born in Havana, Cuba, and in his role with ABC, was the first Hispanic male to anchor a regularly scheduled national television news program.
"We are thrilled to have one of the nation's most distinguished television newsmen as part of our award-winning news team," commented Shaun McDonald, President/General Manager of WFOR and WBFS. "Antonio's impeccable credentials and Shannon Hori's exceptional presence will clearly make them the news team to watch in South Florida."
"Antonio Mora is a tremendous addition to our CBS4 news team," added Tom Doerr, Vice President/Station Manager of WFOR and WBFS. "This caps a series of great news hires we've made recently, and it positions this station to build on its successes and assure our role as leaders in this market."
"I am truly delighted to have Antonio join CBS4 News," said Adrienne Roark, News Director for WFOR and WBFS. "He brings a winning combination of instant recognition and established ties to the South Florida community, and we're delighted that he'll bring his talents to our team."
Mora most recently anchored CBS 2 Chicago's 6:00 PM newscast and served as the host of "Eye on Chicago," CBS 2's Emmy-Award winning public affairs program. In addition to his anchoring duties at CBS 2, Mora was a special projects reporter for the station.
"I'm excited about returning to Miami, one of the most exciting and competitive television markets in the country," Mora said. "I'm looking forward to joining this dynamic news team."
Mora joined ABC in 1994 and reported for virtually all of ABC News' broadcasts, including "Nightline" and "20/20," covering news from more than a dozen countries on four continents. He also anchored ABC News' breaking news coverage and served as a correspondent for "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" (1996-98) and as a regular substitute anchor for the weekend edition of "World News Tonight" (1998-2001). He began work at ABC as co-anchor of "Good Morning America/Sunday," while also serving as a contributor to "Good Morning America" (1994-95).
Prior to joining ABC News, Mora worked at KTTV-TV in Los Angeles (1993-94) as the original co-host of "Good Day L.A." Before that, he served as a reporter and anchor for WTVJ in Miami (1992-93). He was one of the original anchors for "Nightside" (1992), NBC Network's overnight newscast, and one of the original announcers for ESPN's international transmissions to Latin America (1991-92). Mora is fluent in Spanish and worked as an anchor and producer for Telemundo's WNJU-TV (1991) in New York, N.Y. He began his broadcasting career as a sports anchor and reporter for Univision's WXTV (1989-91) in New York, N.Y.
Mora's addition to the CBS4 team will result in changes in the anchor teams for other CBS broadcasts. Longtime CBS4 anchor Elliott Rodriguez will join the 5:30 broadcast, where he will share the anchor desk with Erika Von Tiehl, and he will also co-anchor CBS4 News at Noon with Cynthia Demos. Elliott will continue to host the award-winning public affairs program 4 Sunday Morning.
Jawan Strader will join Erika Von Tiehl as co-anchor of CBS4 News at 10 on My 33, and will report for earlier broadcasts. Jorge Estevez will continue to anchor the 4-hour CBS4 This Morning broadcast and will also report for CBS4 News broadcasts.
