One-On-One With John Leguizamo
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
The sub-zero heroes are back in action for the first time in 3-D. "Ice
Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" brings back the hilarious herd, including
mammoths Manny and Ellie, Diego the Saber-toothed grouch, Scrat the
acorn-chasing squirrel, and of course, Sid the sloth. John Leguizamo
plays Sid and told
CBS4's Lisa Petrillo, finding the right voice happened during a midnight snack.
"I was walking with a sandwich and I thought how am I going to do this voice," Leguizamo said with a lisp. "I said, 'oh, snap! Look at this.' So I called the director and said, 'check this out? Guess who this is, Chris!' And that's how we came up with the voice."
In this third installment, the pack travels to unknown territory after Sid accidentally stumbles upon some dinosaur eggs.
"I think he has a slow sperm count and that's what happened," joked Leguizamo. "He can't have his own birth, so he has to get somebody else's eggs."
Almost 45 and now married with two kids, John's career runs the gamut from TV to Broadway comedies to the big screen. Leguizamo now picks and choose his roles carefully.
"I can't do as much because I have a family," he said. "So I want to spend time with them, I don't want to be an absent dad. I pick out projects that I'm really passionate about. If I don't feel that passionate about it, I kind of let them go."
As for Sid, John hopes the next Ice Age will bring the sloth a mate so he can live happily ever after!
"That's what I'm vibing for,"Leguizamo joked. "Maybe I can do a little. Flava Flave kind of has a couple different girls that I mess around with and we have problems and issues."
"Ice Age: Dawn of The Dinosaurs" is now playing.
