CSI's Gary Sinise: Support Our Military Troops
WASHINGTON (CBS4 News) ―
CSI star Gary Sinise was at the White House Monday but he wasn't solving crimes, he was supporting American troops.
The actor was in our nation's capitol to help President Bush spread the word about 'America Supports You', a Defense Department outreach program created to recognize citizens who support the military.
Sinise, who co-founded the Iraqi Children Fund; an 'America Supports You' organization that sends school supplies to students in Iraq, encouraged citizens to log on to the organization's website to learn more about how they can help military men and woman and their families.
"One of the things I think that's important is just to get the word out that americasupportsyou.mil exists so that people, if they're looking for a way to support the troops, to help the troops, they want to do something positive, they can find ways to do it," Sinise told reporters outside the White House following his meeting with Mr. Bush.
Launched in November 2004, 'America Supports You' has hosted events and undertaken projects across the country to honor citizens' support for America's Armed Forces and to encourage others to join the effort. The program is also designed so that members of the military can access the organization's web site and learn ways Americans are supporting their service.
