Broward Agency Sets Up Food Collection Sites

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― Volunteer Broward Field of Food needs help meeting its goal to help feed South Florida's hungry.

The organization provides resources to more than six dozen local hunger relief organizations in Broward.

The second annual Volunteer Broward Field of Food drive comes at a most critical time, as the downturn in the economy, rising unemployment, and higher food and utility bills are forcing more people to turn to local hot meal programs, food pantries and shelters for assistance.

Last year's campaign raised the money and food needed to provide nearly 750,000 meals to individuals and families struggling to make ends meet.

During the 2009 Volunteer Broward Field Of Food campaign, which began on September 14 and culminating with a food distribution at Lockhart Stadium on October 17, 2009, has set a goal to secure 1 million pounds of food and funds to help Broward County's food pantries and social service agencies.
