Miami Magazine New Issue Dedicated To Great Food
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Miami Magazine just came out with its newest annual issue which is completely dedicated to the best food in South Florida.
The magazine chose, among others, best chef, best new restaurant and best overall restaurant, which went to Il Gabbiano in Miami.
Making ravioli with Il Gabbiano owner and chef Fernando Masci is like singing an aria with Placido Domingo, you just get out of the way and watch the magic unfold.
Fernando Masci, the creator of New York's premiere Italian eatery Il Mulino, opened Il Gabbiano on 3rd Street and South Biscayne Boulevard about a year and half ago.
For this top chef, the recipe for his success is an easy one.
"The best food, the best service and the best ambiance," Fernando told
CBS4's Lisa Petrillo, "I'm here from 8 in the morning until midnight."
When Miami Magazine decided to call their July-August edition "The Restaurant Issue", food writer Jen Karetnick knew she found the winner for best restaurant when she visited Il Gabbiano.
"The food is absolutely phenomenal," said Karetnick. "You just can't get any better and when it comes right down to it, the food wins."
From the risotto with a red wine demi-glaze reduction to a Fusilli Matriciano, to homemade ravioli with pate fois gras and homemade butter, you'll think you've died and gone to Italy.
With the fine food comes superb service. Every glass and piece of silverware is steamed cleaned at the table, no spots allowed. And when diners arrive, it's service at its best which is something Chef Fernando Masci insists on.
"This is the top service here, nothing else," said Fernando.
As for Il Gabbiano, Fernando has never hired a public relations firm. It's word of mouth that keeps this special spot so busy and it's what goes into the mouth that leaves customers coming back for more.
