Whale's Rib Gets National Exposure

Joe Inderhees
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― A Broward neighborhood seafood restaurant will soon be garnering national attention. The restaurant Whale's Rib -- where neither ribs nor whales are on the menu -- will be featured on the Food Network.

"People ask us all the time if we serve ribs, but we don't," said general manager Debbie Lauriecella.

What they do serve is a menu full of fresh seafood. Lauriecella estimates the restaurant goes through about three hundred pounds of seafood a day. Most of it is served with their special sauce, known to loyal customers as, "Liquid Crack."

"It's really our house dressing," explained kitchen manager John Keener. "If we put it on sand, people would eat the sand."

The big portions, secret sauce. and family atmosphere caused customers to write into the show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."

So many people raved about the Whale's Rib that producers came down to check it out for themselves.

The crew came in for a two-day shoot in February. The Whale's Rib episode will air Monday, August 31st at 10 PM on the Food Network.

You can check out the Whale's Rib for yourself.

The restaurant is located at 2033 NE 2nd St in Deerfield Beach.

It opens at 11, serves lunch and dinner, and the dress is casual.
