MIAMI (CBS4) ―
From the 4 Your Money Team, just in time for the weekend, another serving of "Cheap Eats", which features great meals that won't break the bank.
In her latest installment,
CBS4's Lisa Petrillo features two deliciously inexpensive restaurants, one is a new franchise and the other is a South Florida staple.
Wing Zone is one of the fastest growing takeout and delivery chains in the country. It's known best for its 25 award winning flavors of fresh, cooked-to-order chicken wings. The chain was created in 1991 by two fraternity brothers at the University of Florida who wanted more than just take-out pizza. Their concept of mouth-watering wings with dozens of homemade sauces for take-out and delivery really flew.
The Wing Zone in North Miami Beach, which opened in July, is owned by franchisee Linda Joseph-Noel.
"It's a wonderful concept. The wings are excellent, we have 25 flavors and the wonderful thing about our concept is that we deliver to you. We're trying to take the pizza business out of business."
The secret of the wings is in the freshness. They're never frozen and fried in a non trans-fat oil, and the key is those 25 sauces are the flavors, like hot honey barbeque, nuclear honey teriyaki or Cajun.
Wing Zone prices fly under the radar with almost everything under $10.00 a person.
In Fort Lauderdale, there's nothing new about
The Floridian, which has been filling South Florida's diner void for more than 63 years. Open since 1937, this classic old American diner off Los Olas Blvd., is loved as much for its atmosphere and celebrity photos on the wall, as it is for its consistently good food.
Butch Samp has owned this local hangout since 1977
"We never look for a one time customer; we want them to be a part of our family. We never rush them, they can a have a cup of coffee and we never rush anyone out," said Samp.
From delicious made-to-order omelets, to oversized salads, French toast and more, the Floridian keeps loyal customers coming back and it's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
