Netflix Headed To PS3 In November
NEW YORK (CBS4) ―
PlayStation 3 owners with Netflix subscriptions will be able to watch on-demand movies and television shows without ever leaving the couch.
Sony Corp. and Netflix Inc. announced the deal Monday. The service will be available for free to PlayStation 3 owners who have a Netflix subscription costing more than $9 a month.
About 9 million PlayStation 3 systems have been sold in U.S.; there was no immediate release on how many of those console owners are already Netflix subscribers.
Sony already sells movies and TV shows on the console, but Netflix provides a chance for viewers to rent rather than buy.
Netflix streaming is already available on Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360.
Nintendo Co.'s Wii is the last holdout; though the system does have wireless capabilities, the system was not released with a DVD player and is often viewed as the least "multi-media-friendly" of the newer generation systems.
