Oil And Gas Prices Remain Steady

MIAMI (CBS4.com) ― The nationwide average price of a gallon of gas dropped to $3.81 on Monday. But, the continuing unrest between Russia and Georgia threatened to push oil prices higher on Monday.

Gas prices fell from $4.09 in June to the current price. Still, that's more than 1 dollar more than the country was paying in 2007.

The drop in prices for gas followed a multiple week decline on the price of a barrel of oil, which peaked at $147.

Experts have been divided over the cause of the drop, with some saying it's a correction, and others saying it's a reflection of the continued decline in buying power of U.S. customers.

Statewide, Floridian's are paying just slightly below the national average, with Floridians paying $3.80. In South Florida, drivers in Miami-Dade county are paying a bit more at $3.85 per gallon, while drivers in Broward county are paying more than that, with the average coming in at $3.91.
