Pay Less At The Pump This Week

Gas Prices Expected To Fall Under $4.00 A Gallon Throughout The Week

MIAMI (CBS4) ― The gasoline picture in South Florida is much prettier than the numbers suggest.

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $4.03 in Miami and Fort Lauderdale as of Monday afternoon. That's down ten cents from a month ago.

But all across South Florida, drivers are finding gas under $4.00 a gallon. Some places are hitting as low as $3.88!

The drop is a welcome break for folks struggling to handle the rising cost of nearly everything else. "I can't afford to drive, you know," Carlos Amasifuen commented, "I go to the supermarket and everything is so expensive!"

Triple-A says gas prices are dropping due to a lower demand. Most people are giving up on summer vacations as they try to drive less and save a little more.

A stronger dollar is also helping push oil prices down. The cost of a barrel of crude oil has dropped $24 in the last two weeks.

Even with the small break, drivers are looking for more. "I'd like to see 35 cents a gallon! I don't think that's going to come back, but two dollars a gallon would be fine," said Jose Penabad.

If you're looking for $2-a-gallon gas, prepare to be disappointed. Triple-A says that won't happen. But we should see gas prices continue to fall throughout the rest of the week. Of course, all things are fairly relative. A year ago, gasoline in South Florida was well over a dollar a gallon cheaper.
