Lisa Spence has been missing for two months.
Spence Family
Lisa Spence worked two jobs, doted on her two kids and was as dependable as the sunrise, family and friends say. That makes it all the more bewildering that nearly two months ago, Spence vanished.
After finishing her shift at a Miramar Kwik Stop on Pembroke Rd. on Wednesday, October 6, Spence headed to the apartment she shared with her boyfriend. She also had a phone call with her teenage daughter, Cerline Stewart.
That's the last time anyone spoke with her or saw her. Miramar Police are saying they believe Spence met with foul play.
"Not one day goes by that I don't think of her," Stewart said from Philadelphia, where she is staying with family. "It's very hard. I just pray that she's alive still."
But with each passing day, it becomes more and more difficult to sustain hope.
"It's been very difficult," Stewart said. "I can't sleep at night. Every night I pray to hear my mother's voice."
As the days and weeks stretch on, there have been several milestones missed since Spence disappeared. Cerline turned 18 and Spence's son turned 10. Spence would have also celebrated a birthday recently.
Stewart said she and her mother are extremely close.
"Normally we talk 3 to 5 times every day," Stewart said. "If she don't call, I make the effort to call. I call her that day and she said she would call me back and she never did."
The family said Spence was preparing to leave her boyfriend, a man she met in her native Trinidad and moved with to South Florida.
"She had intentions of moving out, and he was pretty upset about that," Stewart said.
Miramar Police told
CBS 4 News they have several leads they are following, including looking into Spence's cell phone records from the days after her disappearance. However, the case remains open and there was little else they were willing to discuss.
"She worked two jobs and she was in daily contact with her family, especially her daughter and all of a sudden it just stopped," said Detective Jonathan Zeller.
Cerline Stewart said she keeps a tight hold on photos of her mother and showed us a tear drop earring her mom bought for her. Spence bought one for herself and gave the other to her daughter. The women shared a tight bond, and the disappearance of her mother has created a hole in Stewart's heart.
Stewart made a plea to her mother during our interview.
"Mommy, if you're listening to this or if you're hearing this, I love you and please call," she said.
