Dolphin Baby Boom at Discovery Cove in Orlando

ORLANDO (CBS4) ― There's a dolphin baby boom taking place at Discovery Cove in Orlando. Four Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins have given birth in the past month, according to park officials.

The name and gender of the calves will be determined shortly, usually within a month after birth.

The national animal-rights group PETA, meanwhile, has asked for an investigation into the recent death of a dolphin at Discovery Cove.

Busch Entertainment Corp., owner of Sea World's Discovery Cove, said Tuesday June 23rd, that Scarlet, a bottlenose dolphin, died due to complications of pregnancy. The dolphin was 29.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it wants to know more about the dolphin's death.

Discovery Cove is an all-inclusive park where guests can swim with dolphins, snorkel in a tropical reef surrounded by beautiful fish and rays, hand-feed exotic birds and relax on a beach.
