MIAMI (CBS4) ― Clothes swap parties are the latest rage so if there was ever a time to look through your closet and clear out those items you never wear, it's now.

During Saturday's Earth Day Celebration at Bayfront Park, Miami Goin' Green will offer "Fashion Forward: Presented by Goodwill".

Shoes, kids clothes, maternity clothes – anything and everything you want to donate and trade will be offered.

Rebecca Carter, whose on the Goin' Green committee describes what they hope will happen.

"We just want everybody to go through their closet look at stuff you haven't worn in the last year and give someone else a chance to use it. It's great for economy and great for the environment," Carter told CBS4's Lisa Petrillo.

Carter stresses going green doesn't mean you have to spend a lot of green.

"If you talk about eco clothes, it doesn't have to be that you have to find an expensive organic outfit. You can buy or trade clothes that are used, that's the ultimate eco friendly," said Carter.

The premise behind Miami Goin' Green's "Fashion Forward" is for people to bring lightly worn items that they no longer wear in order to swap them for things that they will wear. You must leave something in order to take something and all items left over at the end of the day will go directly to Goodwill.

The "Fashion Forward" event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Bayfront Park on Saturday April 25th.

Goodwill South Florida will have a mini-store at the event. There's no need for money at this store. Just bring a clean, wearable, trendy item to exchange. For those who just want to donate clothes, there will be a drop-off area at the park.

The free day at Bayfront Park will also include live entertainment and 80 exhibitors will showcase their wares including a cool eco friendly way to bike your way into blending your own smoothie. If you bring in 6 empty water bottles you can trade them in for a Clear-2-go water filtration bottle.

The idea behind Miami Goin' Green is to recycle, reuse and reduce.
