S. Fla. Health Officials Fight The Spread Of H1N1

MIAMI (CBS4) ― The H1N1 Swine Flu virus continues to cause illness across the state and in South Florida, but local health departments and health providers are still hard at work providing vaccinations to help stop the spread of the disease.

As of November 3rd, Miami-Dade County providers, including the Miami-Dade County Health Department, has received a total of 213,800 doses. 

The Miami-Dade County Health Department has administered 14,300 doses and still has 15,024 doses available. The rest of the doses are available at local health care providers, clinics and hospitals.

There have been more than 500 confirmed cases of the H1N1 Flu in Florida.

H1N1 Vaccination in Broward County Schools:

At this time, H1N1 vaccinations are being offered to students in public schools in Broward County. The Broward County Health Department has also offered the vaccine to private and charter schools. Parents with children at private and charter schools must contact their school and inquire whether or not their school will be participating. If your child attends a school that is not participating, please contact your healthcare provider.

High Risk H1N1 Vaccination Clinic:

The Broward County Health Department has also opened a High Risk H1N1 Vaccination Clinic at the Northwest Health Center located at 624 NW 15th Way, Fort Lauderdale. This clinic serves high risk individuals who cannot access H1N1 Influenza vaccine through their healthcare provider or do not have a healthcare provider. At this time no appointments will be required; you may walk in and be served on a first come, first serve basis.

For more information about the vaccine in Broward County, call the Broward County Health Department at 954-467-4705 (M/F 8 AM to 4 PM).

Pregnant women and children remain among the priority groups to receive the vaccine. Also in the priority list are health care and emergency medical personnel, people who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age and anyone 25 – 64 years of age who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza related complications.
