Work Out Your Mind & Body With IntenSati

IntenSati Is A Word Derived From The Buddhist Term Associated With "Mindfulness"

DALLAS, Tx (CBS4) ― Are you tired of the treadmill, do you still pretend to like Pilates? Now, there's a new fitness trend called IntenSati, a high-energy, cardio workout that blends yoga, sculpting exercises and martial arts, with positive spoken affirmations.

IntenSati is a word derived from the Buddhist term associated with "mindfulness." The new age workout is designed to inspire physical, mental and spiritual transformation.

At a gym in Dallas, Texas, intenSati instructor Kimberly Persley leads the class. With a rhythmic beat in the background, people stretch, pose and balance. Persley promises that by the time the one hour class is finished, people will be sweaty and breathless.

"You've worked on your balance, your flexibility, but you've also done something really quite remarkable for your mind and spirit," said Persley.

For every action, there is an accompanying affirmation designed to lift the spirit. For instance, while doing arm circles, students may whisper, "I am grateful for my body now."

Student D.J. Keynote, who chanted along with the rest of the class during his first try at intenSati, said he ended the workout as promised, sweaty and breathless.

"There is so much concentration involved and you are watching. You start sweating and your body; you are holding poses and moving into other things. You get a workout man," said Keynote.

IntenSati was born in New York City and classes are offered in only a handful of major cities.

While it's not offered in South Florida just yet, intenSati DVD's are available.
