Organ Donations Are More Crucial Than Ever
DORAL (CBS4) ―
Organ donations are down in the U.S. but the need remains critical, while the supply chain shrinks.
It's something you probably don't think about and hopefully you will never need. But if the day ever comes that your future depends on an organ donation wouldn't you want someone to give you the gift of life?
Eighteen years, two and a half months ago Myriam Correa-Sherman received a heart transplant.
"The doctor told my husband I had a few hours to live when I got my heart," said Correa-Sherman.
But that heart allowed this mother of two and grandmother of three to enjoy all the highlights of having a family.
"I would be able to see them get married," she said.
She now works with the folks at Life Alliance to encourage others to donate organs.
"Life Alliance Organ Donations is non-profit licensed by federal government to control organ procurement and organ donation from the Key West to Port St. Lucie and the Bahamas," explained Rosetta Rolle-Hylton.
She travels the area to let people know organ donation is safe and easy.
"At every Department of Motor Vehicle every examiner by law is supposed to ask everyone that comes to that counter would you like to be an organ donor," Rolle-Hylton conveyed.
Correa-Sherman is forever grateful for the gift she was given.
"We need to encourage people to be an organ donor," she pleaded.
Each person who donates their organs can save eight lives.
