Despite Funny Taste, Coral Springs Water Safe
CORAL SPRINGS (CBS4) ―
Residents of Coral Springs may notice their tap water has a slightly chlorine taste or odor but city officials want you to know it's safe to cook with or drink.
The city's utility division is temporarily changing the way it chlorinates water to comply with the Department of Environmental Protection. As a result, the slight smell and taste of chlorine in the water will last until about July 17 while free chlorine is being used.
City officials say people on kidney dialysis should ask their doctors for any special instructions concerning this matter. Residents who have tropical fish or aquatic animals should contact a pet store if they have any concerns.
People who are especially sensitive to the taste and odor of chlorine should keep an open container of drinking water in the refrigerator. This will enable the chlorine to dissipate, thus reducing the chlorine taste.
Health officials say drinking water has a shelf life and should be changed out in your refrigerated container weekly.
Residents with questions can contact the city's utilities division at (954) 345-2160.
