A New Wrinkle In Cosmetic Treatments
FDA Approved Evolence For The Correction Of Moderate To Deep Facial Wrinkles And Folds
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Erika Brown loves to laugh, and unfortunately it shows.
"I have been noticing the indentations," she said, pointing to the lines running from her nose to her mouth, "You know what they call the parentheses around the mouth. It started to portray an older me, and I don't feel like an older me."
Those so-called nasolabial folds, or laugh lines are a common complaint said Dermatologist Dr. Mark Steven Nestor partly because as we get older our skin becomes more lax.
"The other thing is we lose volume." Dr. Nestor said. "We lose fat around the mouth especially than other areas, and that combination tends to exacerbate those folds."
Injectable cosmetic wrinkle fillers are soft tissue fillers approved as medical devices by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These devices are injected into the skin to help fill in facial wrinkles, restoring a smoother appearance. Most of these wrinkle fillers are temporary because they are eventually absorbed by the body.
But now some doctors have a new weapon that can keep you smiling while you're fighting father time. It's called Evolence and it promises to give you longer lasting results almost instantaneously. Evolence is purified porcine collagen so it comes from a pig. And unlike other collagen injections, Evolence lasts much longer because the collagen is stabilized by a process called cross-linking.
"Because this is a unique new process of cross-linking this filler it lasts probably up to a year or more," Nestor said. Plus, it doesn't cause the irritation and bruising commonly seen with fillers like Restalyne or Juvederm.
"It gives you very nice filling. It doesn't cause irritation. It doesn't cause bruising. Patients can get treated, they can go home, or they can go to work." he said.
That's why Erika decided to give Evolence a shot. And it made a dramatic difference in minutes.
"I look great. I think I look great," she said. "I'm very happy with the results."
And that's something to smile about.
No skin test needs to be done with Evolence. But not every doctor or dermatologist can use it. They need to complete a special training program on how to use it.
