Zap Stress & Anxiety With Laser Light Therapy
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Anxiety and stress are two things we can't seem to escape, especially with a bad economy, foreclosures and job losses. But if severe anxiety and stress have become part of your daily routine, it could have an affect on your health.
CBS4 Health Specialist Dr. Sean Kenniff says there's an alternative treatment that's not only helping with these issues but also a number of other medical conditions.
The war in Iraq, our nation's economic storm and those created by Mother Nature are causing an increasing number of Americans to suffer from stress.
Maxine Cohen has been dealing with anxiety for decades. "I struggled with anxiety and stress pretty much my whole life," admitted Cohen.
The 62-year-old said it's caused her to hyperventilate and have heart palpitations. She tried an anti depressant and therapy but nothing seemed to help.
"The past year has been really difficult with my mother passing and my dad's sick," said Cohen
Maxine is not alone. According to the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, anxiety disorders affect at least 40 million adults in the U.S. each year. When traditional treatment didn't work, Maxine turned to laser light therapy which combines light energy and acupuncture to combat all kinds of disorders.
"We can harness the light that is in a laser and focus it on these same meridian points which seem to be a window into the rest of the nervous system," said Clinical Psychologist Dr. Andrew Rosen.
Rosen said anxiety and stress are two of the biggest contributors to poor health and disease.
This photo-medicine is one of the fastest growing areas in healthcare today. And according to Rosen laser therapy has been proven effective for a number of disorders such as insomnia, pain syndrome such as fibromyalgia and substance abuse protocols.
Each session lasts about 20 minutes and best results are felt within four to eight weeks. But for some people like Maxine, results can appear even sooner.
"I personally felt total relaxation after the first treatment," admitted Cohen.
The laser light therapy is FDA approved and works best when combined with other treatments.
