Vietnamese Girl To Receive Life-Changing Surgery

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Fifteen-year-old Lai Thi Dao of Vietnam has come to South Florida to try to regain a normal life. She is stricken with a Schwannoma tumor that has been growing since she was only three-years-old.

Dao has never attended school and ends up spending most of her days doing minor chores around the house. The tumor has grown so large, with respect to her other organs, it could cause her throat to close and her airways to collapse. 

"At this pint the tumor is growing back into the throat," said Dr. Jesus Gomez.

Dao was brought in to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami by the International Kids Fund.

After her surgery, Dao should be able to eat, speak and regain function of her neck. The IKF is also seeking donations for Dao's surgery to help offset the costs. It costs about $107 thousand. If you're interested in contributing to Lai Thi Dao's fund, contact:
