FDA Issues Warning For Weight-Loss "Supplements"
WASHINGTON (CBS4) ―
Almost everybody over-indulges during the holidays, and makes a New Year's resolution to lose weight. If you're in this category, you'll want to keep your eyes peeled for 28 weight-loss products being eyed by the Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA says the products contain unlisted ingredients. Some have prescription drugs – far above the maximum recommended dosage. Others have dangerous appetite-suppressing drugs, suspected carcinogens, or even drugs not approved for sale in the U.S. None of the dangerous chemicals are on the labels.
Some items are sold online, others are found in stores across America.
Some pills are marketed as innovative "herbal" Asian remedies. Others are advertised as "all-natural." Now, the FDA is considering criminal charges against some of the companies since they have no responded to requests for recalls.
