HIALEAH (CBS4) ―
Colorectal cancer is the 2nd most common cancer killer, but when detected early the survival rate is 90 percent. That's why we here at
CBS4 are launching "A Test for Life" to encourage viewers to pick up a free test kit.
Louis Cotton, pharmacist for Coto's pharmacy for over 30 years, spoke to
CBS4's Dr. Sean Kenniff about the importance of getting the test done. His pharmacy and other Good Neighbor pharmacies are participating in giving away the kits.
"This will help a lot of people," said Cotton. "They come in, pick up the test free, do it at home, mail it in to Mt. Sinai, and you'll get your results. And everything should be ok. We can save a lot of lives."
A positive test might not mean you have colon cancer, but it might mean you have symptoms that may lead to more serious illness down the line--allowing you to get the treatment you need before it's too late.
The kit simply contains specially treated sheets of toilet tissue that you can then send in to the lab for free to get your results.
