Heat's Wade Makes Check Presentation

Guard On Track For Olympics

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) ―

Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade and Staples, Inc. teamed up to honor Mitchell/Moore Park of Pompano Beach with the "Staples Dream Park Challenge" Award.  This park initiative encourages communities to work together to receive renovation money for their local parks.

More than 500 VIP guests and community residents attended the event, which included a $25,000 check presentation from Wade, music by the Heat's DJ Irie, a performance by the Blanche Ely High School Band, and a surprise donation by the City of Pompano Beach park staff.

In an online voting contest, Mitchell/Moore Park received 99,000 votes out of 261,000 to win the 2008 challenge.

During an interview about the event, Wade spoke about the coming Olympics in which he'll compete after concluding his rehab program for an injured knee.

"As of today (Monday) I'm excited to go in the arena and go train… not only getting ready the Olympics but for a long season next year," said Wade.
