Heat Add Center Jamaal Magloire
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
The Miami Heat added another big body to the roster on Tuesday with the signing of center Jamaal Magloire. He brings another big body to a team in need of help at the center position.
Magloire, who is 6'11" tall, has been in the league for 8 years and amassed an average of 8.6 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game. But, in the 2007-2008 season, he averaged almost as many fouls (1.6) as he did points (1.8) per game.
He joins a team with frontcourt players at the beginning or the end of their playing career. Center Alonzo Mourning is entering his 16th season, was hampered by injuries last year, and has not been signed after hitting the free agent market.
Journeyman center Mark Blount enters his 9th season, and forward Udonis Haslem will be playing his sixth season in 2008.
On the flip side, power forward Michael Beasley will begin his rookie campaign this season after he selected as the number 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft.
The starting lineup for the Miami Heat will probably feature rookie point guard Mario Chalmers, All-Star shooting guard Dwayne Wade, small forward Shawn Marion, power forward Michael Beasley, and a combination of Blount, Magloire and possibly Mourning.
